Accord Biomaterials, Inc., a medical device company located in Ann Arbor, Michigan, is looking for a summer intern to assist in the synthesis of active agents for use in medical device coatings. This will include derivatizing and characterizing N-macrocyclic ligand structures. Good problem solving abilities, undergraduate experience with synthesizing and characterizing compounds as a member of a research lab, and excellent interpersonal skills are required. This position necessitates that the person work within a multidisciplinary team of chemists and engineers. Experience with characterization techniques such as NMR and IR is a plus. Typical duties are described below:
- Derivatizes N-macrocyclic ligands with functionalities that allow incorporation into polymer backbones using SOPs
- Purifies and characterizes compounds using standard techniques
- Works with senior chemists on new strategies for achieving desired biological activity of the materials
- Maintains accurate records of work performed. Maintains lab notebook, compiles information and prepares test reports.
Applicants should have a minimum of a junior standing in a Bachelor program in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering. Graduating seniors are also encouraged to apply. The summer intern position is a full time position for the summer of 2008.
