The Chemistry Department at EMU has received special recognition for its overall Professional Program in Chemistry. This special recognition is in the form of approval by the American Chemical Society (ACS). This approval (the ACS is not an accrediting body, but rather the professional society to which most chemists belong) indicates that EMU has a high quality Chemistry Program, and it meets the demanding standards (courses offered, degree requirements, facilities, library holdings, faculty, instructors, professional development, etc.) set by the ACS. While the ACS does not give approval for Chemistry teaching programs, its approval of the EMU’s Professional Program in Chemistry does command respect for the quality of EMU’s overall instruction in Chemistry.
